Arts Based Research Practice
1. There are a lot of these types of research that I would be interested in learning. The ones that caught my eye most were aesthetically based research, art-based inquiry, and performative inquiry
2. I feel that when I was part of my art history seminar and we were cultivating a new show for this fall I felt communicative power in the research I was doing for this show. I felt that I could help get the voice of the culture I was researching out into a new and different audience and shatter their perspectives of this culture and change the way they thought about this culture and their artwork. I felt slightly empowered as well in that I had this power to change how people think and how they learn about this culture in the show with the information that I provided.
3. One category that stood out to me was the category of "problematize dominate ideologies" where the creativity is handed over to the research participant along with the interpretation. This to me is interesting because it really opens up the floor for other perspectives and empowers the research participant. The relationship between the participant and the researcher is given more strength with this method and it creates a new dynamic that I think is interesting and I would like to explore. This also relates in a way to my chapter that I read for my research presentation as it talks about collaborative research and the relationships between the researcher and the participants.
Question 1: How can CSU further involve the community with arts-based research?
Question 2: Are there areas and genres that are lacking in the form of research and ones that we should be focusing on?
Question 3: Can we successfully add music to performative research and learn more about that research? If so how could we potentially implement that in universities and here at CSU?
